The Study Skills Team comprises two Academic Skills Advisers: Clare Ballinger and Cris Wassell.
The advisers’ role is to work with all students from any academic background, at any level, and on any subject, to support them with their academic study skills and enable them to complete their course and excel during their university experience.
On request by tutors the team can:
- Provide introductory talks about the service.
- Deliver study skills workshops on a range of academic skills topics, such as essay writing, managing a dissertation, critical thinking and reflective writing.
- Work with students on a one-to-one basis to develop their study skills via the 60 minute confidential Study Skills appointment system. Many tutors suggest this as part of their feedback on assignments.
- The team also receives referrals from other student support teams across the university (e.g. receiving referrals from the Wellbeing team and via the Study Support Procedure).
