Foreword

This guide will direct you to market research that has already been compiled and published. This is called "desk research"; it's secondary research, where you collect data from existing sources, as opposed to a survey or marketing study that you might do to produce new data (primary research).

 

Sourcing market data already out there saves companies time and money. This type of research can be undertaken to identify new markets to enter, or to monitor markets companies already operate in. As such it would be necessary for you to understand the current state of the industry or product(s), identify and monitor competitors and customers, examine promotional strategies, etc.
